There will be a full programme of seminars throughout the day covering key issues for the grain business.

Impacts of changing climate on the timeliness of grain cooling in autumn.
Dean Cook, business development manager, CSL

With the reduction in the number of contact insecticides available to protect grain during storage, cooling has become essential for the maintenance of quality and protection against storage pests.

Feedback from growers indicates that there is increasingly either, a real of perceived, problem with cooling grain rapidly after harvest to ensure safe storage.

An HGCA co-ordinated project funded by Warwick HRI through Defra's Climate Change Adaptation and Innovation Network, and carried out by CSL and Imperial College monitored a number of farm stores to record actual cooling profiles and compare the performance of manual control against the use of automatic differential thermostatic control. This seminar will cover the results of the project and the advantages that may be available through the use of differential thermostats.
