Case Study: A whole farm approach to precision farming
Jake Freestone, Manager Overbury Farms
Jake Freestone takes us on a precision farming tour of the Overbury Farms' arable land. Here he employs a wide range of techniques from precise job recording and costings thorugh to using GPS steering and guidance, variable rate fertiliser and careful planning to help improve efficiency and accuracy of all the operations.
Fundamentals: New e-tool aids to improve nitrogen and PGR precision in winter cereals
Sarah Clarke, ADAS
A look at the practical benefits of using a CAnopy Assessment Tool (CAT), developed by BASF in collaboration with ADAS. Using the CAT farmers can quickly and easily assess a crop canopy's Green Area Index (GAI) to provide consistent assessment of crop nitrogen and crop lodging risk from a digital photograph.
12:15pm
Case Study: Setting up a controlled traffic system
Robert Ramsey, SoilEssentials and farmer
A detailed and practical look at why and how one farmer has established a controlled traffic farming (CTF) system on his farm. Also as a supplier of precision farming equipment he explains eactly is required, how it works and some costs to set-up and operate the system.
14:00pm
Case Study: Automating nitrogen applications
ADAS Auto-N project - Daniel Kindred, ADAS and farmer, Nick August
A detailed look at the Auto-N project, which combines research expertise in nitrogen management, crop sensing and variability with proven commercial expertise in precision agriculture. The aim is to develop commercially-viable systems for automated, fine-scale adjustment of N applications to autumn-sown cereals. Nick August, provides experience from a farmer's perspective.
