Ways to tailor your precision farming needs

A variety of telematics and GPS tracker packages, both off-the-shelf and tailored to suit  specific requirements are available from precision farming services company Precision Decisions.

Its telematics devices use GPS and processing technologies and include features such as the Cortex M3 Processor, SiRFStar IV GPS, Bluetooth Low Energy, iButton/ Dallas Key driver identification and CANBUS integration. They are IP67 rated waterproof sealed and include fully integrated antennas making them robust in all weather conditions and inconspicuous in their appearance.

The GPS trackers are aimed at machine management but equally can be used in other applications, such as machine security, trailer tracking and location, plant tracking/security and operator identification.

The company also supplies machine-to-machine (M2M) roaming SIM cards automatically connects to the strongest signal in the area, which means you are not locked to one specific mobile network provider which may have little or no coverage in certain areas. The M2M SIM cards constantly search for the network with the strongest signal, providing the user with the most accurate and current location data available.

But according to Precision Decisions, the hardware is just one part of the GPS tracker solution.  The software used is equally important and allows the farmer to track his machinery and equipment as well.
