Growers were reminded of the importance of protecting stored grain against pest attack and of preparing stores well in advance of harvest at the 2014 Cereals Event in Cambridgeshire.
“Don’t leave it to the last minute,” said Ken Black, Bayer’s Rural Hygiene Manager, “There is a danger that if you have not cleaned your storage areas thoroughly you could be harbouring insects. The bugs will be there and waiting to contaminate your crop.”
Mr Black advised growers to take a more considered and planned approach. “Before you think about using chemicals you need to plan, give yourself more time and make sure storage areas are clean.”
As well as giving preventative advice Bayer promoted its grain protectant K-Obiol and its two formulations, according to whether action should be taken pre- or post-harvest.
K-Obiol EC25 is designed to treat the fabric of the building prior to the grain coming into store and K-Obiol ULV6 is a ready to use formulation that can be applied to the grain prior to it entering the store.
