10.30am -Knowledge Base: Generate income opportunities

An intoduction to Feed In Tariffs (FIT) with an update on the recent changes and advice on what could also happen after April 2012. A summary of the current FIT rates for the main renewable energy options and advice in how farmers can choose the best and most appropriate for their individual situations.
11.30am -Case Study: Award-winning energy ideas
Stephen Temple, Farmer and renewable energy producer
Farmers Weekly's Green Energy Farmer of the year, Stephen Temple, who has a 230ha arable and dairy farm and cheese-making business, discusses his winning ways with energy and offers advice on the decision process and planning behind the installation of an anaerobic digester. As well as the Feed in Tariff income he explains the other indirect benefits such as heat, fertiliser from the digestate and even the ability to strip-till maize.
12.30pm - Knowledge Base: Will Solar PV returns FiT the future?

The Solar PV industry is still reeling from the shock slashing of the Feed in tariff rates for Solar PV in half, along with cutting the deadline to 12th December for installations to be completed to be eligible for the previous higher tariff. What do these changes mean for the future of solar energy on farm and is it now possible to make the new figure stack up?

Barclays Bank has recently introduced a £100 million loan fund available to farmers looking to finance renewable energy projects. This seminar looks at the various options and explains how to put together a business plan and application that will help access funds for the investment and development.
2.30pm -Case Study: Farm scale anaerobic digester
Scott Kirby, Farm Manager Harper Adams University College
The anaerobic digester at Harper Adams University College started generating heat and power earlier this year and is expected to offset the campus carbon emissions three times over. In the process it consumes 11,000t of dairy cow and pig slurry as well as 12,000t of food waste and produces biogas that is burnt to create electricity.
