This event builds on the success of last years Dairy Technology Event and is a focussed practical day intended to help dairy farmers make the most of their businesses through the implementation of innovation.

11:00am - Rhys Williams: Opportunites in Dairy

Rhys is the co-owner of Padog Farms Ltd. A company based on cow ownership with all land rented. The farm has 650ha over two sites wher ethey milk 1000 cows on one and 400 on the other. A total of 430ha is allocated to the milking cows with a strong emphasis on low cost milk. As a 1st generation dairy farmer Rhys will be talking about the opportunties with in dairy farming over the next 20 years.

11:15am - Robert Newbery: Chief Dairy Advisor to the NFU

Robert will explore how the NFU is working to create the environment in which dairy farmers can fulfil their potential. Their work on dairy contracts has been to ensure farmers have equitable terms of trade and the confidence to invest. He will also give insight in to the NFU's work with DEFRA and others on the green food project.

11:45am - Steven Bailey: Catchment Sensitive Farming River Basin Co-ordinato at Natural England

Steven will discuss what Catchment Sensitive Farming has to offer dairy farmers in the way of training/advice and capital grants, all aimed at protecting water with minimum impact on farm incomes.

12:15pm - Andy Smith: Product Support Manager at Cogent Breeding

'Utilising genetie within your herd' Andy will talk about bull selection, not just individual bulls but also identifying the benefits of different breeds. It will focus on the many new indexes available to aid farmers and how to understand them.

12:45pm - Prof Liam Sinclair: Harper Adams University College

Liam Sinclair is part of the Harper research team and will be looking at strategies to maximize the intake of grass for high yielding dairy cows.

1:20pm - Dr Mark Rutter: Harper Adams University College

Mark Rutter is part of the Harper research team and will be looking at the effect of rearing environment (inside or out) of replacement heifers on their behavior and performance when given a choice to graze.
