10.30 am

"Why Use a Ridba member for your next farm building?”

Antony Lowther, MD/owner of third generation family business

A J Lowther & Son Ltd based near Ross-on-Wye Herefordshire

How we would all like a building project to progress as opposed to what usually happens, this seminar will detail:

  • The legal position regarding health and safety between farmer and  contractor - in plain language
  • Consequences of what might happen if things go wrong and how the Farmer can protect himself
  • What is a Competent Contractor and what should they be offering and doing
  • Brief history of Ridba
  • Current objectives of Ridba
  • How the objectives of Ridba coincide with those of the Farmer
  • Conclusion: use a Ridba member for your next farm building.

11.30 am

Rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling on the farm.

Debra Jackson BA (Hons), managing director, Receau and

Barrie Jackson LLB(Hons) MCIM, chairman, Receau.

A dairy herd of 200 milkers will get through 29000 litres of water daily. Water charges are authorised to rise every year by 4.2% + RPI and disposal charges can double the true cost of water to farms. In its modern form, rainwater harvesting and recycling can supply up to 50% of farming water needs. This presentation provides an overview of the requirements and the financial incentives for farmers to take advantage of proven technology to dramatically reduce water costs - in one example, savings of £52K over a 5 year period!

 1.30 pm

“How CDM applies to farmers.”  Bernardine Cooney, HM Inspector of Health and Safety in the Agriculture and Food Sector, Safety Section, Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

 2.30pm

“The Roundhouse concept.”  Geoffrey Simpson, Managing Director, Roundhouse Building Solutions Ltd.

The Roundhouse is not just a farm building, it is a total concept designed to give optimum animal and operative welfare. The building may look stunning but its process efficiency delivers cost savings that many livestock farmers struggle to believe. This seminar will explain about the development of the Roundhouse, it's 360degs ventilation, integrated handling and how it could save you money.
